Bands and Ens.

Thomas Ewing Junior High School is one of two Junior High Schools in the Lancaster City Schools district.  This building houses both 7th and 8th grade students.  There are two bands at Thomas Ewing, one seventh grade concert band and one eighth grade concert band.  Each band meets for 42 minutes during the school day and is directed by Mr. Gerken.

These bands perform four times a year and the students in each of these bands study a variety of literature.

In addition to the seventh and eighth grade bands, there is also a 6th grade band made up of 6th grade students that will attend Thomas Ewing their 7th grade year.  This band performs three times a year and meets on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. (before the start of the elementary school day).

Fifth graders have the opportunity to join the beginning (cadet) band at the start of the second semester.  This band is designed for students to learn basic skills for participating in and ensemble and performs at the end of the school year.
