Instrumental Music Department
Mr. David Bode, Director
General Sherman Junior High School is one of two junior high schools in the Lancaster City Schools district. General Sherman Junior High School houses both 7th and 8th grade students.
There are three bands at General Sherman. There is a 7th grade concert band, an 8th grade concert band, and a jazz band made up of 7th and 8th grade students. All three ensembles rehearse during the school day. Students wanting to be in the jazz band must audition to be part of this group.
In addition to the concert bands and jazz band, there is a 6th grade band for those 6th grade students studying an instrument that will attend Sherman their 7th grade year. This band meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. (before the start of the elementary school day). This band performs at Christmas time and at the end of the school year.
At the start of the second semester, beginning band members (5th or 6th grade) can elect to participate in beginning band which meets at Sherman on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. (before the elementary school day). This band experience is designed to teach beginning musicians to work together as a performing ensemble. This band performs once at the end of the school year.
